Brahma was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1888, when Swiss immigrant Joseph Villiger registered the trademark on 6 September that year. The firm became Companhia Cervejaria Brahma in 1904.
The bottled, draught-style Brahma Chopp arrived in 1934 and became a national bestseller. Today the brand is brewed by Ambev, part of AB InBev.
The Pour
A light-bodied adjunct lager: pale gold, brilliantly clear, with subtle grain sweetness and a soft floral-hop lift (around 14 IBU) over a clean, dry finish built for the heat.
Serve it ice-cold. In Brazilian bars the draught chopp is poured with a thick, creamy head.
The Honours
Brazil's second most-consumed beer, behind stablemate Skol — and a regular on the podium abroad: Silver at the 2025 World Beer Awards and Bronze in 2024.
It ranks among the most consumed beer brands on the planet.
